Building communities: Salt Lake Parade of Homes and Make-A-Wish Utah

By July 11, 2018 No Comments

The Salt Lake Home Builders Association is committed to building our communities, and one way is through the Salt Lake Parade of Homes™. But our passion for community building goes beyond that. You’ll find the majority of our builders have ties to several charitable organizations, and we’re thrilled to support many good causes! Since 2004, the Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ has partnered with Make-A-Wish Utah to raise awareness and funds to help children across the state. There have been roughly 140 Make-A-Wish rooms featured in our Parades in the last 14 years.

When a child chooses a wish, they choose from four wish types: to go, to be, to have or to meet. Wish children and builders are matched according to the Parade builder’s chosen wish type. Builders meet with wish children and their families to learn about their wish experiences—what they did and their favorite moments.

Builders work closely with these children and their families to design a dream room inspired by the child’s wish. These colorful designs range from trendy teen hangouts to magical rooms inspired by space, the ocean, sports, jungles and more. You’ll see bedrooms, game rooms and rec rooms alike.

Each year, Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ donates a portion of ticket sales, and participating builders raise additional funds. These donations help grant the wishes of children who have been diagnosed with a critical illness. Since the beginning of our partnership with Make-A-Wish Utah, Salt Lake Parade of Homes™ has donated over $100,000 granting wishes for more than 20 Utah children.

You’ve likely noticed the popular Make-A-Wish rooms in a few of our Parade homes each year, and we encourage you to read the accompanying placards to learn more about each child’s story. You can find Make-A-Wish rooms in the 2018 Parade at homes by the following builders:

Alair Homes
Breen Homes
The Building Group
Hardrock Homes
Lafferty Communities
Steven Dailey Construction

Your participation in the Parade supports many worthwhile causes, including Make-A-Wish Utah. We look forward to seeing you at the 2018 Salt Lake Parade of Homes!
